The Associates

Dr Emma Simpson

“I am Clinical Psychologist with experience working with children, young people, families, and adults in the North West of England.  My other Clinical experience includes previous work with Military Veterans, individuals with chronic pain, and adults and young people in medium secure hospitals. I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2008 and also have an MSc in Forensic Psychology which I completed in 2004. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT (working specifically with adults, 2012), and am currently undertaking a Post Graduate Certificate in Service Leadership. I am a member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP) and the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

I have undertaken further training in a range of therapeutic modalities including DBT, Narrative, and Behavioural approaches, and will complete Non-Violent Resistance Training in March 2018. I provide Clinical supervision to a range of professionals in my organisation. I have taught on the North West Clinical Psychology Doctorate programmes and also provide and supervise training placements for Clinical Psychology Trainee’s from these courses.”

 Dr Amelie Turgel

“I am a Counselling Psychologist currently based in London. I run workshops, conduct 1-2-1 psychological therapy and lecture at universities and other institutions.

I am trained in a number of therapeutic approaches, which enables me to tailor my therapy according to each individual’s needs. I work primarily using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and integrate other approaches into my practice. I​ am experienced working in a variety of contexts. These include the NHS (UK national health service), the voluntary sector and private practice.”

Mick Darby

“I am a counselling psychologist, certified coach and a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the BPS Special Group in Coaching Psychology. I have been published on the use of mindfulness in professional development training and was awarded the Australian Psychological Society Prize for excellence in 2013-14.

I am currently completing a doctorate in counselling psychology at City, University of London and live in Brighton. I am passionate about improving wellbeing and preventing burnout, especially those who have previously experienced psychological health issues such as depression, anxiety or burnout at work.”

Charity Work

We volunteer at the Samaritans, offering our career coaching and executive coaching services on a weekly basis. In our work with the staff at the Central London Samaritans office, we address both personal and professional subject matters with each individual staff member and it is a valuable working relationship we really enjoy maintaining.

The Samaritans charity was founded in 1953 by Rev. Chad Varah with the vision that fewer people should die by suicide and are committed to the following values:

  • Listening, because exploring feelings alleviates distress and helps people to reach a better understanding of their situation and the options open to them
  • Confidentiality, because if people feel safe, they are more likely to be open about their feelings
  • Autonomy in making their own decisions wherever possible, because we believe that people have the right to find their own solution and telling people what to do takes responsibility away from them
  • Being non-judgemental, because we want people to be able to talk to us without fear of prejudice or rejection
  • Human contact, because giving people time, undivided attention and empathy meets a fundamental emotional need and reduces distress and despair.

Every six seconds, somebody contacts one of the 20,665 Samaritan volunteers. Ten times a minute they can help someone turn their life around. With 201 branches across the UK and Republic of Ireland, operating around the clock every day of the year, the Samaritans is a truly inspiring support network and it is an absolute honour to volunteer with them.
